HIFI PIG VISITS SUPERSONIDO HIFI SHOP IN BARCELONA

Last week HiFi Pig’s Linette and Stuart were in Barcelona for a well earned holiday celebrating Mrs HiFi Pig’s birthday. While they were there they came across SuperSonido, a HiFi shop in central Barcelona.

It is always the case in the HiFi industry that everyone is connected in some way or another, your friend knows someone else who just happens to run a HiFi shop in the city that you are on holiday in. In this case, Terry from Primare told us we should visit his friend Ernesto who runs SuperSonido, in the centre of the city.

SUPERSONIDO BARCELONA

We arrived unannounced and were warmly greeted by the shop staff and introduced to the owners Ernesto Rubio Lopez and his partner Caroline Fuchs. It was the day before Black Friday when we visited so the SuperSonido team, with shops in Barcelona and Bilbao, along with a very busy online store, were understandably busy, it seems that Spain has a huge appetite for HiFi.

SuperSonido started as an establishment dedicated to the sale of household appliances located on the outskirts of Bilbao, run by the Rubio family. The second generation of three sons saw the potential to specialise in HiFi and Home Cinema and became one of the best-known destinations for high end audio in the Basque country.

In 2015, SuperSonido took another leap and opened its first store in Barcelona. There is a strong sense of family in the Barcelona store and a connection to its Basque roots, the airy and open space is decorated with huge photographs of Bilbao taken by Ernesto’s father.

The SuperSonido Barcelona store is well laid out, with the front part of the shop containing lots of Home Cinema and AV gear and screens, along with the more midrange gear, smaller speakers and headphones. This opens up onto the back section with high end systems in place, plus there is a downstairs area with further listening rooms that are currently being extended.

They carry a great range of gear, including Primare, Q Acoustics, Naim, Focal, Devialet, Fyne Audio, Boenicke, McIntosh, Sonus faber, Wharfedale, Melco, Klipsch, Pro-Ject Audio, Chord Electronics, Ferrum, Wilson Audio and many other well-known brands.

We spent a very enjoyable time at SuperSonido, it was a real pleasure to meet Ernesto and Caroline and to chat about all things HiFi. The shop is a beautiful space and it is easy to see why SuperSonido is one of the most popular HiFi retailers in Spain. Thank you for welcoming us SuperSonido and we will see you soon!
