THE NEW AVANTGARDE ACOUSTIC DUO GT AND DUO SD ARE THE GERMAN HIFI BRAND’S 3^RD GENERATION OF DUO HORN LOUDSPEAKER

Regular readers will know that here at HiFi Pig towers, we are big fans of German Horn Loudspeaker brand, Avantgarde Acoustic. One of our reference pairs of loudspeakers in our main listening room is the Avantgarde Acoustic Duo XD.

But Holger and his team never stay still for long, they are currently rolling out the next generation of their horns.

The Avantgarde Acoustic G3 family

We have heard the new TRIO G3 at shows including High End Munich (where the new Duo and Uno models were on static display) and the Dutch Audio Event, partnered with the new Spacehorn bass modules, now Avantgarde has released more about the new G3 DUO models, the DUO GT and ‘entry level’ DUO SD.

AVANTGARDE ACOUSTIC DUO GT

Avantgarde Acoustic says that the DUO GT is “the best Duo we have ever developed”.

The DUO GT “Grande Twin” is the third evolutionary stage of a horn system that has been in High End German HiFi brand, Avantgarde Acoustic’s portfolio since 1993. The DUO GT features the brand’s proven spherical horn architecture combined with the improved XM2 midrange driver, the new XT3 reference super tweeter from the TRIO. Bass is handled by the XB12 bass drivers with a huge voice coil from the Spacehorn, developed to compliment the new TRIO G3.

Holger says that the Avantgarde Acoustic DUO GT has same soul as thirty years ago, but with a different and darker temperament. It delivers 107dB efficiency and has a nominal impedance of 18 Ohm.

MODULAR AND UPGRADEABLE

Highlights of the new DUO GT include the new modular and upgradeable G3 crossover, 3rd generation PolarisationPlus circuitry, the optional Itron Activ Power Module with 1000 Watt power output, NatureCap

, Avantgarde’s unique, proprietary super-capacitor, processor-controlled active filters and a new G3 user interface for programming. The DUO GT stands 173cm tall and each unit weighs 108.5KG.

BASS UNIT

The bass unit features the G3-1000 Bass Amplifier and two XB12 Bass Drivers. The feet are CNC precision milled with die-cast aluminium vibration damping.

MIDRANGE UNIT

The XM2 Midrange Unit has two new 12 inch XB12 drivers with 152mm voice coils and a membrane made of a composite of long-fibre paper and carbon fibre. The horn is a 670mm spherical midrange horn.

TWEETER UNIT

The tweeter is the XT3 Reference with new 200mm tweeter horn with 176mm length, annular diaphragm with duplex suspension, new improved XT3 Evolution super tweeter, and extended frequency range up to 28,000 Hz.

AVANTGADRE ACOUSTIC DUO SD

The Avantgarde Acoustic DUO SD has been designed as the new entry into the world of Duo sound. It comes with a single bass driver in the unit and the outer dimensions have been slightly minimized for this new ‘entry level’ Duo, but as Holger says “reduction does not always mean just leaving out. Reduction often means creating awareness for the essential”.

The DUO SD sports the same size spherical tweeter and mid horns as the GT but stands 155cm tall and weighs 94kg. The DUO SD is also available with the optional Itron Activ Power module and optional wireless streaming module.
