These are in ears that cost around €100 but the packaging really is tremendously clever. I loved it. At first glance the box containing the actual in ears appears to be a book, but as you open it you are rewarded with lots of little things to open, to read and to enjoy. We all know that packaging isn’t the point of Hifi but these guys have got it right and the packaging connects you with the product and gives you that Christmas morning feeling.  More »

You may remember that we had a sneaky peek at the Cyrus Lyric back in September 2013, at the Paris hifi show. Well look what arrived for us today, a rather superbly boxed Lyric for us to play with. Its an all-in-one DAC/CD player/streamer/amplifier/radio for people who want audiophile quality from a single box and it looks rather fabulous too.  More »

A very smart cuboid package has just arrived at Hifi Pig Towers, looking forward to having a play with this, especially as it promises everything the Mu-So has and more bass….pass the Hardfloor, I feel a sub bass test coming on!

While you are waiting for the review, have a look at what John Scott thought of the original Naim Mu-So, earlier this year. More »

Most audiophiles, particularly those in the UK, will know the name Creek and it is indeed great to see the company doing so well for themselves.

The Creek Evolution 100P is a power amplifier offering up a healthy 100Watts whilst the CD is, surprisingly enough a CD player. Interestingly the CD has an inbuilt DAC with a volume control so that’s all you need to get yourself up and running.
The pairing arrived in a sturdy double box and completely undamaged…which was nice! More »

Audio Hungary are a relatively new name to Hifi Pig and we first met them at this year’s High End show in Munich where they had their wares on display. This, the Qualiton A20i, is their entry level integrated amplifier. It is very compact, runs 2 x 20 Watts of Class A power and is based on classic push-pull topology.

It arrived, with little help from DPD, in a sturdy double (and surprisingly heavy) boxing, with the amp inside being very well packed indeed. The first thing out the box was the remote…wow, that’s heavy and really rather beautiful! Off with the valve cover to expose the tubes and the gleaming chrome body-work and that’s it all unboxed. We’ve had the version one of this amplifier in the reference system for a while now and on the back of its performance we ordered the version 2 a few months ago. Jonathan Billington at Music First has been building it, and i’m sure others, since then, giving us regular updates as to how the build was going.

The Baby Reference arrived in a sturdy outer suitcase style box made of tough plastic with everything inside having being kept nice and safe from the vagaries of the international couriers. We’d been asked to open the unit to look at the personal message written on top of the transformer housing…i love little touches like that! More »

The Avantgarde Duos were ordered at last year’s Munich High-End and after a few months of feverish anticipation they finally arrived on a huge pallet. The packaging of these loudspeakers is exceptionally clever and very well thought out, making what could potentially be a very tricky exercise in unpacking, really rather simple…though there were a few worried faces at Hifi Pig Towers when the lorry driver had them on the edge of his wagon…

These have been in the main system a good while now and a review will follow in a month or two.  More »
