Hifi Pig is putting its head above the festive parapet and backing John Otway in his bid to get a Christmas No. 1 in the UK.
Two-hit wonder John Otway is hoping to make it a hat-trick by taking the number 1 UK single slot this Christmas with his single OK Father Christmas, which is a reworking of his “almost-very-nearly-a-hit” DK 50/80 with Wild Willy Barrett which reached 45 in the UK singles chart in 1980.
Otway has odds of 25 to 1 that he will hit the number one spot this Christmas and he has something of a secret weapon in the form of his hordes of loyal fans whose collective purchasing power gave Otway a number 9 hit for his 50th birthday with Bunsen Burner in 2002.
Those same fans also voted Otway’s “Beware Of The Flowers Cause I’m Sure They’re Going To Get You Yeah” as the Seventh Greatest Lyric Of All Time in an online poll.
With a fan base like that behind him, who knows what could happen. So, if you would like to see a rock and roll original winning the race to the Christmas No. 1 rather than the usual X Factor winner, you could do worse than to put OK Father Christmas in someone’s stocking this year.
It’s class…have a listen and then go buy it…
