LUXMAN INTRODUCES NEW L-505Z INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER
Luxman’s Z Series is now complete with the introduction of the Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier.
Luxman has introduced the latest model in its 505 series of integrated amplifiers, the Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier. This release completes the company’s Z Series of amplifiers, joining the L-507Z and L-509Z. The L-505Z is set to replace the L-505uXII and is available now in the USA.
LUXMAN L-505Z INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER
The L-505Z boasts several improvements over its predecessor, the L-505uXII. Among the most notable advancements is the inclusion of Luxman’s newly developed Integrated Feedback Engine System (LIFES1.0) and the Luxman Electronically Controlled Ultimate Attenuator (LECUA), both aimed at delivering superior sound quality.
PHONOSTAGE
The amplifier is also equipped with an upgraded moving magnet/moving coil (MM/MC) phono preamp, a function that audiophiles with a preference for vinyl playback will appreciate. Additionally, the new model includes LECUA-controlled left-right balance adjustment, dual headphone output jacks, and a new LED volume level display with a VU meter.
LIFES1.0
The LIFES1.0 power amplifier stage represents Luxman’s continued efforts to reduce distortion without compromising musicality. While traditional negative feedback systems can reduce distortion, they have often introduced slight inaccuracies that impact sound quality. The LIFES1.0 system refines this process, offering a balance between low distortion and a natural, expressive sound, says Luxman.
This innovation builds on Luxman’s history of technological advancements in amplifier design, replacing the ODNF (Only Distortion Negative Feedback) circuit that had been refined over five generations. The new circuit features enhancements in distortion detection, regulation, and thermal stability.
LECUA: PRECISION VOLUME CONTROL
Volume control can be a hidden culprit in sound degradation, and Luxman has addressed this with its LECUA technology. Conventional volume controls often introduce noise and imbalance between channels. The LECUA system minimises these issues by using a solid-state IC precision attenuator, which adjusts volume in 88 discrete steps, reducing distortion and eliminating left/right tracking errors.
This technology also extends to the balance control, ensuring precise and smooth adjustments without affecting the sound quality. The rotary volume knob offers a satisfying, tactile response, adding to the overall experience.
LUXMAN L-505Z INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER POWER AND DESIGN
The L-505Z provides 100W per channel at 8 ohms and 150W per channel at 4 ohms, thanks to its powerful Class AB output stage and triple parallel push-pull configuration with bipolar transistors. The amplifier’s power supply features a substantial 540 VA transformer and four high-capacity 10,000 µF filter capacitors, ensuring ample energy for dynamic performance.
The unit is designed with durability and sound clarity in mind. Weighing 22.5 kg, the L-505Z features a robust build to minimise vibrations that could interfere with sound quality, particularly during quieter musical passages.
VINYL AND HEADPHONE LISTENERS
Luxman has placed a strong focus on optimising the L-505Z for vinyl playback. The improved phono stage includes a parallel first-stage circuit designed for greater musicality and effortless signal handling. A front-panel selector allows easy switching between MM and MC cartridges.
Headphone users are also well catered for with the inclusion of two output jacks – a standard 6.3 mm jack and a balanced 4.4 mm Pentaconn jack. The balanced output offers better stereo separation and sound quality, making the amplifier a versatile option for both speaker and headphone listeners.
ENHANCED CONTROL AND CONNECTIVITY
The L-505Z also offers a range of connectivity and control features, including a 12-volt trigger input and output for integration with home automation systems. The preamplifier output and power amplifier input allow for flexible system configurations, such as bi-amping or connecting powered subwoofers.
Additionally, the amplifier features 18-mm spaced input terminals to accommodate high-quality interconnects, and the inline speaker terminals offer ample spacing for large-gauge speaker cables.
The unit comes with the RMA-17A wireless remote control, which is compatible with Luxman’s digital players released after 1996. For those looking to simplify the user experience, the remote control can also deactivate the unit’s LED display and VU meter lighting, helping to maintain focus on the music.
LUXMAN L-505Z INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The Luxman L-505Z is now available for $5,995 USD.
HiFi PiG Says: We always love the looks and sound of Luxman gear, this looks like it will keep both headphone and vinyl fans happy.
