SWISS BRAND PIEGA COAX GEN2 SERIES LOUDSPEAKERS GROW AS NEW MODELS ADDED

Swiss loudspeaker brand PIEGA, has launched four new generation 2 Coax models, which we saw at High End Munich 2022, which have the PIEGA aluminium cabinet and ribbon driver design.

The PIEGA Gen2 Coax series has four new models featuring an all-new coaxial ribbon tweeter/mid driver and upgraded aluminium cabinets.

ALUMINIUM CABINETS

Maximising PIEGA’s signature combination of internally braced aluminium cabinets and ribbon drivers, the new Coax 811, 611, 411 were presented for the first time at the Munich High-End trade fair and will be available in the UK along with the Coax 211 Centre, from September. Higher volume cabinets, a reworking of the aluminium extrusion to further refine enclosure performance and numerous technical innovations enhance the new Coax quartet.

RIBBON TWEETERS

Since PIEGA was founded in 1986 the company has designed, developed and manufactured its unique ribbon drivers in Switzerland. Their diaphragms consist of a wafer-thin aluminium foil 30 times lighter than conventional HF domes. The brand later expanded its driver technology to include a combined midrange and tweeter ribbon, with the ribbon tweeter placed centrally in the middle of the surrounding midrange ribbon driver and the PIEGA Coax Series was born.

PIEGA COAX GEN2 SERIES

An upgraded version of this unique coaxial ribbon driver is now at the heart of the new Coax models. Its redesigned solid aluminium front panel features additional cross-bracing and a centre bridge, which allows for the installation of an additional neodymium magnet above the tweeter. A newly developed, specially coated driver foil achieves a more linear frequency response in the lower frequency range to deliver integration with the low frequency drivers. The coaxial ribbon now takes over reproduction from 450 Hz upwards, creating a linear response through the critical vocal range and into the HF spectrum.

The inner workings of the coaxial driver have been optimised through PIEGA’s extensive experience with ribbon technology and design. The magnetic rods are now mechanically decoupled to prevent even the smallest changes in the magnetic field caused by micro-resonances, alongside updates to the layout of the foil, magnet construction and mechanical damping system. For the lower frequencies, the UHQD woofers were given more room to breathe by refining the enclosure design and increasing volume.

The flagship PIEGA Coax 811 is designed for larger living rooms. Four 220 mm UHQD woofers two actively driven by the connected amplifier, two oscillating as passive diaphragms provide the bass. The new C212+ coax driver is paired with the UHQD woofers,

PIEGA COAX 611 SPECS

The Coax 611 is taller and deeper than the older Coax 511, and the cabinet is only 21 cm wide. The design incorporates five 160 mm UHQD woofers, two of which are actively driven, and three serve as passive diaphragms.

PIEGA COAX 411 SPECS

The Coax 411 stand-mount loudspeaker features the new C112+ coaxial ribbon forms an excellent symbiosis with the 160 mm UHQD woofer. Compared to its predecessor model, the Coax 311, the cabinet dimensions have grown, the Coax 411 is recommended for use in small to medium-sized rooms.
