THORENS TD 124 DD 140TH ANNIVERSARY AND SPU124 ANNIVERSARY SET AVAILABLE IN OCTOBER
The Thorens TD 124 DD 140th Anniversary turntable is the manufacturer’s birthday present to itself and a new edition of the 2020 released TD 124 DD remake of the original Thorens TD 124 from the 1950/60s.

The Thorens TD 124 DD 140th Anniversary Turntable has a new two-layer plate that connects the already heavy aluminium plate of the 124 DD with a five-millimetre-thick layer of solid copper. The platter bearing was already generously oversized it for the TD 124 DD.

TP 124 TONEARM
The new wiring of the TP 124 tonearm is less obvious than the sandwich plate. In the anniversary version, high-purity silver wire connects the pickup with the outputs. Thorens says: “We find that the new wiring has a positive effect, especially with quiet, low-impedance MC pickups”.

Apart from the silver cabling, the TP 124 tonearm is the same as the 2020 model featuring a torsion-resistant arm tube, slightly higher effective mass, high bearing quality, and SME headshell coupling.
SPECIAL EDITION SPU 124 CARTRIDGE
The third exclusive upgrade of the Anniversary is: a special version of the SPU 124 cartridge, which the Danish manufacturer Ortofon produces specifically with coils made of pure silver.
Thorens says: “We were even able to persuade Ortofon to use the old Bakelite material for the classic sound box housing instead of the newer fibre-synthetic resin mixture”.

Matching the occasion, Thorens have selected a real wood veneer. For a coherent overall impression, they have not only refined the frame, but also the armboard with the high-gloss lacquered and hand-polished wood.
