ITALIAN HIFI BRAND PATHOS LAUNCH THE INPOL LEGACY REFERENCE INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER
Pathos was unofficially born in 1994, with the Twin Tower, the first amplifier with the innovative InPoL circuit.
The co-founders were engineer Gianni Borinato and high-end audio dealer Gaetano Zanini and, with designer Paolo Andriolo on board, Pathos Acoustics officially came into being in 1995.
PATHOS INPOL LEGACY REFERENCE INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER
InPoL Legacy is a fully balanced dual-mono amplifier. The power supply comes from Adrenalin and InPower, with one capacitive inductive filter per channel. The two toroidal power transformers are the largest the Italian brand has ever made. While they have always previously limited the size and weight of the amplifiers, in this case, they set no limits.
POWER SUPPLY
Pathos chose to provide 1800VA per channel, they say that twice as much power as necessary ensures that the transformer does not go into saturation and that it has no disturbances; the cables used were sized to ensure a faster power supply. The power supply is inductive-capacitive.
TUBES
The tube stage is comparable to that of the Pathos Adrenalin. The tube power supply is separate, with a toroidal transformer for each channel. The tubes are in a totem pull configuration, using 2 x ECC803s TungSol and 1 x 6H30 per channel. All power supplies are stabilized, filtered, and dissipated The hight quality wiring is shielded.
MOSFETs are carefully selected and placed in a device that biases them uniformly, the current of each individual MOSFET is measured and grouped with others of the same value.
The amplifier delivers 100W at 8 Ω and 170W at 4 Ω; due to the inherent characteristics of the InPoL circuit, the power does not go double as the impedance is halved. This design choice is mainly related to the thermal limits of the design.
VOLUME CONTROL
The 100-step passive volume is adjusted by low-noise precision resistors using insulated relay switches. Input and output connections are Neutrik and WBT.
PATHOS INPOL LEGACY AESTHETICS
The lines of the Pathos InPoL Legacy are reminiscent of those of the InPoL2 MkII; the dimensions are significantly larger to hold all of its 100W. In the centre of the front panel is the infinite-turn knob with an LED display, the circuit was designed by Pathos labs. The tubes are proudly on display, along with the six capacitors.
100KG AMPLIFIER
The Pathos InPoL Legacy weighs approximately 100 kg. To let move and install it easily, Pathos engineers designed a special packaging with wheels. InPoL Legacy also has a set of brackets which helps to lift the amplifier and put it on the cabinet. Since not all cabinets can support such weight, Pathos designed a dedicated cabinet for the InPoL Legacy.
PATHOS HEATSINKS
The heatsinks are an instantly recognisable Pathos trademark, with the profile modelled after the company logo. In the Legacy, they are larger to ensure adequate dissipation for the 100W Class A power.
