ThivanLabs of Vietnam has released three new valve amplifiers in their new generation collection.

The ThivanLabs Flamingo 300B, Magpie 811, and Robin DL50 are a trio of new-generation tube amps released by Thivanlabs. ThivanLabs says that each model offers a distinct sonic personality. This amplifier trio includes a feature of choosing sound modes between high dynamic and standard dynamic with a switch integrated into the front of the amp.

All ThivanLabs tube amplifiers are assembled entirely by point-to-point method with strict quality control. All tubes/valves are designed to operate in autobias, and a new glass-faced tube cage makes it possible to see the tubes without having to remove the cage.

ThivanLabs told us that one of their main strengths of their tube amps is “the complete use of output transformers (OPT) engineered by OLS technology researched, developed and manufactured by ThivanLabs”. OLS technology is the optimization of the ratio of insulating materials and winding layers of the transformer.

THIVANLABS OUTPUT TRANSFORMERS

The output transformers in the amps has been specifically designed for the power tubes to maximize their sonic characteristics. The OPTs used in ThivanLabs tube amps are always large. They say that the weight of the OPT has great importance to the sound quality.

Using an interstage transformer is another feature of ThivanLabs tube amplification. The use of an interstage transformer optimally controls the frequency range to be always balanced at different operating power levels.

In addition to the main versions Flamingo 300B, Magpie 811, Robin DL50, headphone amplifier versions using 300B, 811 and 6H13C tubes are also developed in parallel with the standard models.

THIVANLABS FLAMINGO 300B

The new ThivanLabs Flamingo 300B is the 15th version that has been developed in ThivanLabs’s 300B amplifier line. Typical circuit designs for 300B that have been implemented include push-pull circuits up to 28W, single-ended circuits up to 8W, designed as integrated or as power amps, and a block or monoblock.

The new version is a single-ended design using two 300B tubes for the power-stage and 12AU7, 6SN7, 6V6 tubes for the pre-stage. With an output power of 8W, this single-ended design effectively leverages the 300B’s sound quality.

THIVANLABS MAGPIE 811

The ThivanLabs Magpie 811 uses the 811 direct heating triode tube which ThivanLabs has researched to develop tube amplifiers since 2012. The Magpie 811 is a single-ended integrated amp. The 811 is used in combination with the 12AU7 pre-tubes.

THIVANLABS ROBIN DL50

The Robin DL50 is the latest version of the ThivanLabs DL50 series. It uses 6H13C power tubes, this power tube has been used longest in ThivanLabs’s tube amp ecosystem. The first version introduced in 2007 was the DL60 using an equivalent power tube Bendix 6080WB. In later versions, 6H13C is mainly used. The electrical circuit design has been optimized for the 6H13C to fully exploit the sonic strengths of the tubes.
