PIEGA TURNS AUDIO INTO ART WITH CONOR MCCREEDY COLLABORATION
With the Conor Mccreedy exhibit at Art Basel in the NetJets Collector’s Lounge, the PIEGA MLS 2 Gen2 becomes a work of art itself.
Artist Conor Mccreedy chooses a PIEGA loudspeaker for his new artwork about music, climate change, and beauty.
PIEGA MLS 2 GEN2 X
One of HiFi PiG’s Eric van Spelde’s stand-out moments at High End Munich 2023 (read more about it here), the PIEGA MLS 2 Gen2 X has been transformed into a work of art by artist Conor Mccreedy.
You may have seen the distinctive-looking speakers at Munich, but they are also now on display at the exhibition in Switzerland.
ART BASEL
At the internationally acclaimed Art Basel art fair, Mccreedy’s new series of paintings, the “Alter Ego Wildlife” series, will be exhibited in a large solo show in the NetJets Collector’s Lounge, and the painted loudspeaker sculpture in deep blue tones will also make an appearance there, and a musically accompanied African Wildlife soundscape will resound from the Conor Mccreedy PIEGA loudspeakers in the NetJets Collector’s Lounge.
ART AND LUXURY
Incorporating luxury objects into the artistic process an approach for many artists. But Conor Mccreedy realised something quite different in his new collaboration with Swiss luxury loudspeaker manufacturer PIEGA: the artist’s intentions did not include a critical examination of the object or its deconstruction. Instead, the luxury Master Line Source 2 Gen 2 loudspeaker from PIEGA represents a basis for his art. This serves as a “three-dimensional canvas” and brings in another art form that can bring people closer to each other, music.
The artist Conor Mccreedy and the manufacturer PIEGA wanted to create a union of art and object that retains its actual functionality: to reproduce music at the highest level. The emotion, energy, and positive power with which it can influence people’s lives are retained in the artwork. Only the surface, the white matt lacquer of the sculpture, became the canvas and the projection surface of the art by Conor Mccreedy.
MCCREEDYBLUE
The luminous, even electrifying “Mccreedyblue”, applied layer by layer to create an illusion of seamless colour transition, dominates the first visual impression of this sculpture. Running drops of colour is another characteristic element that blurs the transition between natural event and the conscious painting process for the viewer.
CLIMATE CHANGE AS INSPIRATION
The visual representation of climate change as melting ice caps was the initial inspiration for artist Conor Mccreedy. The thick paint creates an illusion of dripping meltwater on the matt lacquered speakers. The result is, says PIEGA “a haunting work of art that transcends the boundaries of painting, sculpture, and utilitarian objects, subliminally connecting the fragility of our planet with the beauty of art and music without a raised finger”.
Technically, the unique piece created by Conor Mccreedy does not differ from the series product, the PIEGA Master Line Source 2 Gen2. The speakers have been designed to deliver “the highest-quality music reproduction in rooms that are not suitable for it”.
EXHIBITION
June 14-18, 2023, NetJets Lounge, Art Basel. After Art Basel, the loudspeakers can be viewed at the Mccreedy Studio in Zürich (by appointment only).
