LINN LAUNCHES NEW 119 AND 150 LOUDSPEAKERS AND REFINED SELEKT DSM: CLASSIC HUB FOR 2024

Linn has unveiled its latest two passive loudspeakers, the Linn 119 and 150, alongside a newly refined version of the Linn Selekt DSM: Classic Hub.

LINN 119 AND 150 LOUDSPEAKERS

The 119 and 150 loudspeakers are the latest in Linn’s long history of compact, yet powerful speakers. The 119 is a modern, compact model designed for high performance, while the 150, its larger floor-standing sibling, offers an extended range for more robust sound reproduction. Both models aim to deliver refined sound quality, catering to a broad variety of listening environments and musical genres.

Linn has positioned these speakers as both “energetic” and “refined,” with a focus on making them enjoyable across all types of source material. This balance of sophistication and fun is achieved through a series of engineering innovations, including premium drive units.

One notable feature is the front-mounted drive units, a design element inspired by Linn’s flagship 360 loudspeakers. By placing the drivers at the very front of the baffle and omitting the grille, Linn minimises occlusion, thus allowing for better performance and greater bass control, they tell us. Component quality has been prioritised in both models, featuring lower-order crossovers.

The 119 is rear-ported, which enhances bass performance, but it also offers the option to bypass the port when paired with a Linn DSM network music player. In this setup, a digital bass augmentation filter can be applied, providing a tighter and faster bass response. The 150, on the other hand, features downwards-firing ports for a more omnidirectional bass performance, reducing the impact of room acoustics.

EXAKT TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

Both the 119 and 150 speakers come with the option to upgrade to Linn’s Exakt technology, which enables precise digital crossover and amplification configurations. The two-way design of the 119 and the three-way design of the 150 make them well-suited for the Exakt system, which can be installed within a Linn Selekt DSM. This configuration offers enhanced performance, making the system adaptable to future upgrades.

LINN SELEKT DSM: CLASSIC HUB

The newly refined Selekt DSM: Classic Hub maintains the modular, cartridge-based approach of its predecessor while introducing several design and feature upgrades. Linn’s product design team has refined the chassis and metalwork, resulting in a product that feels and looks premium.

New features include an integrated headphone amplifier with a 1/4-inch jack, adding versatility for personal listening. The Classic Hub also includes dedicated RCA outputs for subwoofer integration, broadening its functionality for home theatre or enhanced bass configurations.

BLACK OR SILVER

The Selekt DSM: Classic Hub is available in two finishes: subtly textured black or flat silver. A large-format display and stainless-steel smart buttons adorn the front panel, while the control dial features hidden LEDs that glow to indicate volume adjustments. The chassis itself is rigid and durable, with sleek chamfered edges that offer a luxurious feel.

Connectivity has been a key focus of the Selekt DSM: Classic Hub. It supports both analogue and digital inputs, ranging from turntables to gaming consoles, ensuring high-quality sound from a variety of sources.

SCALABLE SYSTEM FOR AUDIOPHILES

The combination of the Selekt DSM with the new 119 or 150 loudspeakers offers flexibility for users seeking a scalable, high-performance audio system. The Selekt System can start with a simple passive setup, but it is also designed to accommodate upgrades over time. Users can add amplifier cartridges, DAC modules, and other Linn technologies such as the Organik DAC and Exakt digital crossover.

Linn’s proprietary Space Optimisation technology is also integrated into the system, allowing for room correction.
