USHER NEREO ND-5 LOUDSPEAKERS LAUNCH
The Usher Nereo ND-5 will debut at theTECA show in Taipei next weekend. HiFi PiG’s Gyula will be there to take a listen to them.
USHER AUDIO
Usher Audio, a well-known Taiwanese loudspeaker manufacturer, has been making audio systems since 1972, merging engineering precision with traditional and elegant design. Usher is well-known for its iconic models, such as the Be-718 “Tiny Dancer” and the Dancer Mini 2, as well as its tweeter technology, like their Beryllium and DMD diamond tweeters.
With new management in place, Usher Audio has recently experienced a revival. After years of quiet development, Usher began updating their portfolio in 2021, launching the flagship ML line, featuring models like the ML801 and ML802, alongside the versatile and more affordable LS series, designed for both music and home cinema enthusiasts. Now, Usher has debuted their latest creation, the Usher Nereo ND-5, ushering in a new chapter in their career.
USHER NEREO ND-5
The Usher Nereo ND-5 takes its name from Nereus, the sea god of Greek mythology celebrated for his wisdom, prophetic abilities, and duality of gentleness and power.
The Usher Nereo ND-5’s distinctive design features curved birchwood panels shaped through a meticulous cold-pressed lamination process. This technique is designed to ensure stability, precision, and visual elegance while minimising unwanted resonances. Inside, carefully calculated structures and acoustic damping materials eliminate harmonic distortions and standing waves.
D’APPOLITO MTM CONFIGURATION
The semi-circular front baffle incorporates Dr D’Appolito’s MTM (Mid-Tweeter-Mid) configuration. Slightly angled for optimal sound dispersion, this design enhances phase consistency, reduces vertical scattering, and widens the listening area., Usher tells us.
DRIVERS
At the heart of the Nereo ND-5 are Usher’s advanced drivers, including an improved DMD diamond tweeter. Lightweight yet rigid, it achieves frequencies up to 40 kHz with ultra-low distortion, courtesy of its precision CNC-crafted waveguide and optimised neodymium magnet system. The 7-inch mid-bass driver, shared with the flagship Grand Tower, combines a German-engineered wool and wood fibre composite diaphragm with a unique damping layer.
CROSSOVER
low-pass crossover features OCC single-crystal copper, while the high-pass crossover uses silver-plated conductors with Teflon insulation.
