ATC SCM20ASL ACTIVE STAND-MOUNT LOUDSPEAKER LAUNCHES

British HiFi brand ATC has unveiled the ATC SCM20ASL, a compact 2-way active stand-mount loudspeaker that builds on the company’s 50th anniversary Limited Edition design.

Designed for small to medium listening environments, the SCM20ASL delivers ATC’s signature sound quality in a space-friendly format. The sealed cabinet design ensures tight, controlled bass, making it well-suited to near-wall placement and smaller rooms.

ATC SCM20ASL FEATURES IN-HOUSE DRIVER TECHNOLOGY

At the core of the SCM20ASL is ATC’s proprietary 150mm ‘Super Linear’ mid/bass driver, combined with a 25mm ‘S-Spec’ soft dome tweeter. The mid/bass driver incorporates a large 75mm voice coil and long-gap motor system using ATC’s SL motor technology, helping reduce distortion in the upper bass and midrange. The tweeter uses a dual-suspension design and high-strength motor to extend high-frequency performance beyond 20kHz with enhanced clarity.

DEDICATED AMPLIFICATION IN THE ATC SCM20ASL

Each SCM20ASL speaker houses a pair of class A/B MOSFET power amplifiers: 200W for the mid/bass and 50W for the high frequencies. These amplifiers are tailored specifically to the drive units they power, ensuring optimal control and system integration. The crossover is a line-level, active analogue 2nd order Linkwitz-Riley design, complete with an all-pass filter to optimise phase coherence through the crossover region.

USER TUNING OPTIONS FOR FLEXIBLE INTEGRATION

On the rear panel, the SCM20ASL includes a balanced XLR input along with user-adjustable controls for input sensitivity and bass response. These features allow for fine-tuning based on source equipment and room acoustics. The low-frequency shelf control provides subtle adjustment options for tailoring the bass to suit different placement conditions.

CRAFTED CABINETRY AND FINISH OPTIONS

The cabinet is internally braced and damped for low resonance, and offered in a variety of finishes. Standard veneer choices include Cherry, Black Ash, Walnut, and Oak, with Satin Black or Satin White paint options. Premium veneers such as Rosewood, Burr Magnolia and Pippy Oak are also available, along with high gloss lacquer upgrades. A removable black fabric grille is supplied as standard.

BENEFITS OF ACTIVE DESIGN IN THE ATC SCM20ASL

As with all ATC active speakers, the SCM20ASL bypasses the limitations of passive crossovers. Active systems benefit from more accurate filtering, better amplifier-speaker integration, improved dynamic range, and lower distortion. This approach allows the SCM20ASL to deliver higher performance from a compact footprint, with enhanced stereo imaging and detail retrieval, says ATC.

The new SCM20ASL will receive its international premiere at the Axpona show in Chicago, opening Friday 11 April 2025.

ATC SCM20ASL ACTIVE STAND-MOUNT LOUDSPEAKER UK PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The ATC SCM20ASL will be available in the UK from April 2025. Pricing per pair including VAT starts at £6495 for standard finishes, rising to £7295 for premium veneers. Piano Black or White versions are priced at £7845, and high gloss lacquer over veneer adds £1595. Custom finishes are available on request.
