GEOTAG BY TAZAAR FOR THE HIFI INDUSTRY

Designed and manufactured in the UK, GeoTag by TAZAAR is a patent-pending GPS-enabled tracker designed for the security of high value equipment used in professional production and events.

You will probably be familiar with the name TAZAAR from our coverage of this British Start-Up, not least when they appeared at the Start-Up Area at High End Munich 2024.

TAZAAR DIGITAL PRODUCT PASSPORTS

The TAZAAR  team have been working closely with the HiFi Industry on their Digital Product Passports (DPP), but they also have a new product, described as “AirTag on steroids”, the GeoTag by TAZAAR, which although targeting the events and production industries, also will be highly useful for our industry.

THE COST OF LOST EQUIPMENT

Every year, businesses in the events and production industries lose tens of thousands of pounds due to stolen, lost or misplaced equipment. Whether it’s expensive lighting rigs, high-end cameras, or sound consoles, when equipment goes missing, the impact goes far beyond the price tag.

We know from our many HiFi Industry contacts that this is an issue in our industry too, with many brands and distributors shipping high value HiFi around the world, not just to customers and sales agents , but also to HiFi Shows…we have heard stories of gear not making it to where it should be when it should be there, to the extent of empty rooms at international shows with the equipment having gone astray in transit.

THE SCALE OF THE PROBLEM

Equipment theft, delays and misplacement remain some of the most disruptive and costly issues in events. A speaker left behind in a venue or a flight case taken to the wrong location can derail entire event timelines. Beyond the direct financial blow, these losses affect reputations, client confidence, and the ability to deliver on time.

“Missing equipment doesn’t just cost money, it costs trust,” says Graham Gosden, Managing Director of APT-GB, a UK-based audio manufacturer that’s integrated asset tracking into its operations. “If key gear doesn’t turn up, the event is at risk. At least with tracking, you can see where the problem is and make a plan.”

STOPGAP SOLUTIONS AREN’T CUTTING IT

In an attempt to solve the problem, many professionals turn to consumer tech like Apple AirTags. But while these devices are popular for tracking keys and luggage, they fall short in a professional setting.

Tazaar CEO Lisa Stafford told us: “AirTags rely on nearby Apple devices to report location, meaning they’re only effective where there’s dense iPhone usage. For gear stored in remote venues or transported across borders, this often leads to dead zones and unreliable updates. Worse still, some companies report spending thousands a year on AirTags, managing multiple accounts with no central oversight”.

That’s why experienced live events technician Stuart Campbell describes GeoTag, as “an AirTag on steroids.”

“I’ve had kit go missing at events. GeoTag gives us what AirTags never could: proper visibility. It’s built for our world, not the consumer one,” says Stuart.

GEOTAG BY TAZAAR PURPOSE-BUILT FOR THE INDUSTRY

Designed and manufactured in the UK, GeoTag by TAZAAR is a patent-pending GPS-enabled tracker designed for the security of high value equipment used in professional production and events. GeoTag uses GPS satellite signals, providing accurate updates in real time, even in remote areas, without relying on the mobile ecosystems.

It’s already being used and integrated into production gear by early adopters such Graham Gosden’s team at APT-GB. But GeoTag does more than show where something is, it records where it’s been. The team says it isn’t just about asset security, it’s about peace of mind. Knowing where your critical assets are and being able to prove it. It gives teams more control, more confidence, and fewer surprises.

GEOTAG BY TAZAAR PRICING

Prices start at £159 for a single GeoTag, trade pricing is available by contacting the brand.
