The Dublin Hi End hifi show this weekend (26th and 27th May) at the Bewleys Hotel in Leaopardstown (10am – 5pm) is the culmination of over a years work in bringing a host of quality hi-fi and home cinema systems and manufacturers to Ireland. Products will range from turntables to the very latest computer audio products and so there promises to be something for everyone.
It is credit to the organisers of the Dublin Hi End show that many of the exhibited items will not have been seen in the UK and Ireland previously and to top the whole event off music lovers will be able to indulge in their passion and buy CDs and vinyl.
Oh dear ~ what a dreadful event. Possibly, though not I suspect totally due to the hard, echoey acoustics of each room, all five systems sounded flat, mechanical, lifeless, sterile, unmusical and, above all else, completely uninvolving. Not even impressive in a hi-fi sense. Any novice hoping to gain some insight into whether or not investing a significant sum in a proper hi-fi system would almost certainly decide that it isn’t. The £600 system in my office is better than anything we heard today. The least inspiring hi-fi show we’ve ever attended.
