Spendor has applied key elements of the technology and materials developed for their multi award winning D7 and A6R loudspeakers to create three all-new Spendor A-Line loudspeakers.

The new Spendor A-Line loudspeakers are slim and modern, designed to fit easily and unobtrusively into living spaces. They can be placed close to walls which makes them highly compatible with smaller living spaces. They are easy to drive, so they bring out the best from your amplifier, and modestly priced amplifiers should give excellent sound results.

The Spendor A1 (£1,095 pair inc VAT) is a compact 2-way shelf/stand mount design. It shares many elements with the Spendor Classic 3/5, now approaching 25 years in production.

The Spendor A2 (£1,595 pair inc VAT) is a true ‘mini’ 2-way floor standing design. “Its big sound, excellent power handling and remarkable clarity belie its diminutive dimensions.”

Spendor A4 (£2,195 pair inc VAT) is a small 2-way floor standing design. It delivers music with a clarity, depth and scale that Spendor claim can rival many larger more expensive loudspeakers.

These three loudspeakers were previewed in February at Sound & Vision 2017 (Bristol). All models are now in full production and on demonstration at Spendor A-Line retailers throughout the UK.

For surround sound and home theatre systems the New Spendor A-line also includes:
A1C Centre channel loudspeaker (£695 each inc VAT)
A1W wall mounted surround loudspeaker with angle bracket (£1,295 pair inc VAT)

Spendor have this to say about the technical aspects of their new speakers :

SPENDOR BASS-MID DRIVE UNITS :
At the heart of each model is a new Spendor designed and engineered bass-mid drive unit. 150mm for the A1 and A2, and 180mm for the A4. Each unit features an EP77 polymer cone and surround and suspension materials with outstanding thermal and mechanical stability. The drivers have excellent power handling and extremely good low-level linearity. Key electrical, mechanical and damping parameters have been optimised to ensure consistent low frequency performance and sound in any listening room.

CROSSOVER NETWORKS
Meticulously refined crossover networks integrate the drivers seamlessly to deliver vivid, dynamic, but always natural, sound. The crossover networks have precision wound high-linearity inductors and high linearity audio grade capacitors and are optimised to ensure an easy to drive 8ohm load which guarantees uncompromised performance and complete compatibility with all good amplifiers and cables.

WIDE-SURROUND 22mm TWEETER
A 22mm wide-surround tweeter combines the extended frequency response of a small diaphragm with the low frequency characteristics of a larger diaphragm to give stable low distortion response over a very wide frequency range. The unique diaphragm profile delivers a smooth extended high frequency response over a very wide listening area. The tweeter has a protective mesh grille.

DYNAMIC CABINET DAMPING (A2 and A4)
Timing is fundamental to the musical experience. In conventional loudspeakers rigid, high density cabinet panels are mass-damped to reduce cabinet-talk. Spurious energy is stored and released slowly. This creates unacceptable blurring and slowing of the sound. Spendor’s solution is Dynamic Damping. Small low mass constrained polymer dampers at key energy interface points instantly convert any spurious energy in the cabinet into inaudible heat. The result is a naturally fast engaging sound. The A1 cabinet is constructed with low mass, low energy storage panels with bonded viscoelastic damping to dissipate any spurious vibration.

STABILISER INSERTS
The bases of the floorstanding A2 and A4 models have four machined steel stabiliser inserts. These contribute to the neat appearance and good stability of the slim cabinets. The stabilisers are secured directly into the main structure of the cabinet so that micro-movement or flexing of the plinth and feet (which blur fine detail and destroy ambience) is eliminated. The A1 is supplied with non-slip self-adhesive polymer feet which help to dissipate any spurious vibration that could occur when the cabinet is installed on a shelf.

NATURAL VENEER FINISHES
Available finishes are black ash, dark walnut and natural oak. The A2 and A4 have plinths in a contrasting black satin lacquer finish.

Spendor loudspeakers are 100% designed and manufactured in the UK.
