LA-based flowers de moon announced its first release as a solo project in the form of new single “Anthem of Bob,” followed by a video premiere this afternoon.

Previously a project between Doug Fraley, Olivia Price, Zach Kramer and a rotating cast of collaborators, moon is now Fraley’s solo project after a months-long van trip from his home base in Pittsburgh to his new residence in Highland Park. Eerily, Fraley foretold the whole trip when he wrote “Bob” before the move last year.

“Anthem of Bob’ refers to a legendary van-lifer that inspired me to write the song of a van-lifing vagabond while I was visiting Los Angeles on a vacation,” Fraley told Last Day Deaf in an interviewyesterday. “I had no thought of it at that time, but I ended up doing van life myself the year later… the song kinda became prophecy for me.”

Accompanied by a desert-shot video filmed near the Salton Sea before the quarantine, “Bob” marks the first moon single with Fraley singing, rapping, and producing with some backing vocals from former bandmate Olivia Price.

Highlighting the dynamic and creative energy of singer/producer Doug Fraleyflowers de moon combines mesmerizing vocals with trippy, electronic production to create a unique sound that is intricate and technical without losing any emotional edge.

flowers de moon emerged from Fraley’s desire to experiment with indie pop, funk, trip hop, rap, psych, and jazz in ways that represent the eclectic listening he cultivated from fdm’s humble beginnings in Pittsburgh.

After a five month long van trek that found Fraley living in an artists’ house in Highland Park, fdm became a solo project with frequent collaborations from former bandmates Olivia Price (vocals, lyrics) and Kevin Vose (saxophone, keyboard). “Bob” is the first new single from Fraley after fdm’s previous effort, Depression Smiles, Chaos Winks, reached #136 on the NACC Top 200. While plans to make his Los Angeles debut live are up in the air amidst the coronavirus pandemic, Fraley continues to write and record in Los Angeles.
