In commemoration of the late company founder Dieter Burmester, who would have turned 75 years old yesterday, Burmester Audiosysteme GmbH has announced several new products to be released in 2021.

Recently, Burmester introduced a new sound experience in luxury automobiles with the HighEnd 4D Surround Sound System in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. In addition, Burmester has launched the compact loudspeaker B38 for home audio, with further new home audio products to follow.

After several years of intensive development, the portfolio of electronic components, in particular, will be extended in 2021 with new products such as music centres, power amplifiers, and a new turntable. In addition, existing product lines, such as the Burmester Reference Line, will be complemented and rounded off by new loudspeaker models.

“In the past months, we have sought an intensive exchange with the distributors, retailers as well as our customers in order to offer even better solutions for the current market needs. We will therefore focus completely on the development of contemporary products that also set new standards from today’s point of view: both digital and analogue,” says Thorsten Poenig, Head of Sales.

In the long term, the company is also gearing up for further internationalization and the development of new product categories. This will be done in a very considered manner and will be based on existing brand values.

“Dieter Burmester was a perfectionist who developed his components with a technical precision that is still unbeaten today. Our ambition is to continue this uncompromising approach on behalf of delivering true sound,” says Marianne Burmester, Managing Director.

Burmester B38 Loudspeaker

The new B38 Loudspeaker is the latest product in Burmester’s B-series. Closely related both visually and acoustically, the B18, this larger model benefits from both an elegant design and significantly increased capacity.  In this loudspeaker, the 3-way principle involves a side-firing woofer. The aim of this is to achieve a slim and elegant design.

The B38 Loudspeaker includes an Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter with a folded foil diaphragm in the centre of a very strong magnetic field – a component which was developed in cooperation with Burmester. This tweeter deploys its lower horizontal directivity to achieve a realistic stage image in a comparatively wide sweet spot.

The low-midrange driver was developed in cooperation with Burmester and optimized for especially short attack and decay times. The woofer’s large and membrane is driven by a high-strength neodymium magnet. The screwless, integrated front panel, accentuates the slim shape of the loudspeaker. It is finished with high-quality matt lacquer or selected veneers, and an aluminium frontage. The Burmester B38 Loudspeaker offers two different options for individual adjustment of the audio experience, which can help to significantly reduce room influences. Firstly, a two-stage switch on the rear of the housing causes a wide-range bass roll-off of 1-3 dB between 150 Hz and 37 Hz. In addition to this, a cylinder made of porous foam, which is fully or partially inserted into the bass reflex tube, can be used to influence the bass response mechanically and to adapt it to the spatial situation or personal listening taste.

The B38 allows for Bi-Amping. In traditional single-amp operation, the solid, gold-plated connection bridges made of oxygen-free copper almost completely do away with any unwanted contact resistance between the terminals which are made of the same material. Optimized by means of the Finite Elements Method (FEM), the housing is equipped with elaborate bracing to ensure precise bass reproduction. The double-layered side wall, featuring a stainless steel ring for additional securing of the chassis, increases the rigidity of the construction even further and serves to support the strength and stability of the housing. Decoupling everything from the floor is an adapted version of the precise spring-mass damping system which had already proven itself in the B18.
