SCOTTISH CABLE BRAND ATLAS LAUNCHED SEVERAL NEW PRODUCTS AT HIGH END MUNICH

Here’s more about the new products that Atlas launched at High End Munich, they are the Atlas Arran Transpose and Atlas Hyper 5.0 Achromatic Speaker cables, Atlas Arran Ultra L RCA and XLR Analogue Interconnect and the new Atlas Ailsa Ultra RCA, XLR and DIN Analogue Interconnects.

We were able to get hands-on with the cables at Munich and they had the quality finish that we expect from Atlas cables, here is a round-up of the new models.

Atlas Arran Transpose Speaker Cable

ATLAS ARRAN CABLE RANGE

Kevin Kelly of Atlas told us: “The Arran launch is the real deal as its finally a product that has higher performance than our Mavros range which has been our top performing OCC copper cable for more than a decade. The Ailsa launch is filling out this newish range with the addition of many new options especially for Naim customers and the the Hyper 5 speaker cable is an addition to our core speaker cable line up, we are asked continually for more longer speaker cables and this new 5mm2 wideband Hyper hits the mark!”

ATLAS ARRAN TRANSPOSE SPEAKER CABLE

Speaker cable is the first in the new Atlas Arran range, which takes its design cues from Atlas’ range-topping Asimi speaker range, this time utilising OCC (Ohno Continuous Casting) solid-core copper conductor technology combined with the company’s Grun RF (Radio Frequency) reduction system and a finish that confirms its high-end status.  As with Asimi, Arran comes fitted with Atlas’ cold-weld Transpose multi-connector system, allowing for a user to change the configuration (expanding 4mm, Z 4mm or spade) depending on their wishes.

Arran speaker cable utilises the purest copper conductor available to any audio company wordwide – OCC Copper. Six solid conductor combinations deliver minimal inter-strand distortion as well as offering 2-2 ,2-4 and 4-4 wiring possibilists. The Arran uses a helical cotton spiral (dielectric constant 1.3 – 1.4) to create an air (dielectric constant 1.00…) spaced void near the cable surface. The cable geometry is stabilised by a tensioned controlled layer of microporous PTFE (dielectric constant 1.7).

The Atlas Arran uses a double screen (Alu-Mylar/95% woven) alongside the Atlas dual drain system, which, when used in conjunction with Atlas’ Grun Rf reduction system, is designed to effectively eliminate any Rf emission from the cables and reduce the overall system Rf load.

TRANSPOSE PLUGS

As with Asimi, Arran comes fitted with Atlas’ proprietary cold-weld Transpose deep silver-plated plugs; Expanding 4mm, Z 4mm or spade terminations are available to allow maximum choice for the consumer to change as wished.

As standard, Arran is finished with a beautiful Royal-blue woven fabric.  To further enhance the appearance of the cable, Atlas is offering its Lux finish solution, which, up until now, has only been available for the flagship Asimi range.  Lux takes the finest leather, finished in whatever colour the customer chooses, which is hand-stitched to give a truly bespoke finish for the customer.

ATLAS HYPER 5.0 ACHROMATIC SPEAKER CABLE

The second new speaker cable from Atlas is the Atlas Hyper 5.0 Achromatic speaker cable.  Developed due to customer demand for a speaker cable that offers improved fidelity over longer lengths, this latest addition to one of Atlas’ most popular speaker cable ranges sees the cross-section of the main conductors increase in size to 5.0 mm of OFC copper.  Utilising the company’s cold-weld (solderless) crimping system, the cable is supplied from the factory with Atlas’ proprietary Achromatic Z-plugs or spades and is aimed at users wanting to get the very best performance from their systems.

Atlas Hyper 5.0 Achromatic speaker cable

Hyper 5.0 Achromatic speaker cable consists of two multi-strand OFC copper conductors, each measuring 5.0mm2, wrapped in low-temperature PTFE wideband dielectric. The cable is then packed out with anti-vibration cotton filler and finished with a high-gloss black jacket.

The Atlas Hyper 5.0 Achromatic is delivered from the factory terminated with the company’s Achromatic Z (4mm plugs) or S (spade terminals).  Being low mass and non-conductive, the plug body is designed to eliminate the detrimental effects of circulating Eddy currents, whilst also being self-cleaning.

ATLAS ARRAN ULTRA L RCA AND XLR ANALOGUE INTERCONNECT

Joining the Arran speaker cable in the new range are the Atlas Arran Ultra L RCA and XLR analogue interconnects.  Arran’s launch also announces Atlas’ new Ultra L (Latik) RCA plug, which employs a novel and innovative non-conductive 3D printed geometrical lattice structure that is designed to effectively eliminate any residual plug character from the cable’s true performance.

Arran RCA cable utilises the purest OCC Copper. Seven solid-core conductors are wrapped in microporous Teflon to reduce capacitance, with a secondary polyurethane layer applied that stabilises the cable geometry.

DUAL DRAIN BALANCING SYSTEM

All screened cables can suffer from screen distortion when they are prepared for production, as the mechanical unpicking and subsequent twisting of the screen strands prior to termination upset the fundamental effect the screen has on the cable.  The new Arran screen can be terminated without unpicking, twisting or indeed disturbing the precision laid screen, thanks to the provision of a Dual Drain balancing system that allows a consistent low impedance load to the plug to be maintained.

An Atlas cable at this performance level wouldn’t be complete without the incorporation of the company’s proprietary Grun Rf reduction system. The interconnects have the same standard Royal Blue finish and Luxe upgrade options as the Arran Speaker cable.

ATLAS AILSA ULTRA RCA, XLR AND DIN ANALOGUE INTERCONNECTS

Not content with that, Atlas also launched its latest additions to its Ailsa interconnect range – Ailsa Ultra (RCA), Ailsa XLR and Ailsa DIN.  Building on the success of its Ailsa Achromatic RCA cable, the Ailsa Ultra offers an incremental upgrade to the standard product, whilst the XLR and DIN versions allows users greater choice when selecting cables for their individual applications.  Featuring OCC (Ohno Continuous Casting) copper cable across the board, these latest Ailsa cables feature trickle-down technology normally reserved only for Atlas’ range-topping products.

Ailsa Ultra utilises the purest copper conductor available. Each conductor is arranged with a solid core OCC copper centre surrounded by multiple bunch stranded satellite conductors (also of OCC copper) encapsulated within a tensioned controlled wrapped wideband microporous dielectric. They also feature Atlas’ unique Dual Drain balancing system and Grun Rf reduction system.

Atlas’ Ultra RCA was specifically designed to reduce the mass of the connector, which in turn enabled Atlas engineers to overcome issues all cable connectors suffer from, namely the negative effects of eddy currents and dielectric discontinuities.  This was further enhanced with the addition of an internal non-conductive wideband dielectric body made of Teflon.
