CAMBRIDGE AUDIO LAUNCHES NEW EX SERIES: EXA100 AMPLIFIER AND EXN100 STREAMER

Cambridge Audio, the British audio brand, has unveiled the Cambridge Audio EXA100 stereo integrated amplifier and the Cambridge Audio EXN100 music streamer, forming part of the all-new EX Series.

These products aim to enhance the listening experience by combining robust amplification, advanced digital-to-analogue conversion (DAC), and seamless music streaming technology. Both components are designed and engineered at Cambridge Audio’s London headquarters, Melomania.

CAMBRIDGE AUDIO EXA100 STEREO INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER

The EXA100 is a 100-watt per channel Class AB stereo amplifier, developed over three years as the successor to the Azur 851 series. Drawing on technology from the brand’s flagship Edge M monobloc amplifier, the EXA100 is built to handle even the most demanding speakers.

CONNECTIVITY

The EXA100 features extensive connectivity options. For analogue inputs, it includes balanced XLR inputs for premium connections, along with three sets of RCA inputs. It also has modern digital inputs, including HDMI eARC for TV integration, USB Audio, TOSLINK optical, and coaxial connections, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices. Music lovers can enjoy wireless convenience with Bluetooth aptX HD, which allows streaming from compatible devices, including Cambridge Audio’s Alva TT V2 turntable.

TOROIDAL TRANSFORMER

Internally, the amplifier is powered by an advanced toroidal transformer and uses the same power transistors found in the Edge M, ensuring high-end performance at a lower price point. The inclusion of an ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DAC ensures precise digital-to-analogue conversion for digital sources. Users can also switch the EXA100 to Power Amp Mode, allowing it to function purely as a power amplifier, ideal for pairing with the EXN100 music streamer.

CAMBRIDGE AUDIO EXN100 MUSIC STREAMER

The EXN100 is the latest addition to Cambridge Audio’s StreamMagic platform, offering a flexible music streaming experience. Central to the EXN100’s performance is the ESS Sabre ES9028Q2M Reference DAC, which supports high-resolution audio formats up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD 512.

ROON READY

Users can access a wide range of streaming services directly from the EXN100, including Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Deezer, Qobuz, and Internet Radio, all supported through Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB Audio. The streamer is also Roon Ready, making it an attractive option for audiophiles using Roon for multi-room setups. In addition, the EXN100 supports wireless streaming via Chromecast, AirPlay 2, and Bluetooth aptX HD, giving users plenty of options for streaming their favourite music wirelessly.

HDMI EARC

New features include HDMI eARC for TV connectivity, enabling users to enhance their television audio setup with richer sound quality. A 25% larger, high-resolution display on the front panel allows users to view album artwork or choose from a selection of VU meters or clock displays. As with the EXA100, the EXN100 shares the same elegant design, featuring a milled aluminium front panel and a tactile control knob.

DIGITAL PREAMP MODE

The EXN100 can operate in Digital Preamp Mode, allowing it to serve as a control hub for digital audio sources, with volume adjustment available through the StreamMagic app, the front panel, or the system remote that accompanies the EXA100. This makes it a perfect partner for the EXA100 in pre/power configurations.

DESIGN

Both the EXA100 and EXN100 feature thoughtful design elements that align with Cambridge Audio’s commitment to high-end aesthetics and usability. The amplifier and streamer are finished in a matching Lunar Grey, and the control knobs are designed for a satisfying tactile experience. The products are built to be visually cohesive when paired together, with a modern, understated design that will suit a variety of listening environments.
