FLARE JET 1 and JET 2 in-ear headphones are £49 and £69 respectively, much less than the company’s very well received previous models. Janine Elliot checks them out.  More »

Now in its fifth year the North West Audio Show has risen to be what I consider to be the best show that we attend and we are phenomenally happy to be their media partners. This year the show, held at the Devere Cranage Estate in Cheshire, had an amazing buzz going on social media in the weeks running up the show and subsequently turnout was fabulous – even the Sunday when we expected a lull because of England having a game on in the World Cup. The vibe at this show is like no other you will experience and there were people saying it felt less like a Hifi event and more like a great big family party that just happened to have some great Hifi systems playing. Add to this that the show is free, there is loads of free parking AND you get welcomed at the entrance by Kris’s (the organiser) fantastic team of helpers with a glass of fizz and you will understand why we are so happy to be media partners. It was also great to see other media at the show with Alan Sircom and Paul Messenger both in attendance. NEXT YEAR’S SHOW IS – Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June 2019 at De Vere Cranage estate, in Cheshire.  More »

Stuarts High End Munich 2018 wrap up part two. This is my final report from what has been the best Munich High End we have attended. We covered over 50 Km at the show and met some great people, heard some fabulous systems…and some not so. Hope you enjoy.  More »

This gig marks a first for me – I confess to having only recently discovered Scott Matthews when I heard, almost by accident, the track ‘Elusive’ (which has won an Ivor Novello songwriting award) from his debut album – which, as it turns out, was released some 12 years ago.  That’s correct – 12 years!! – and I’ve been blissfully unaware!  It turns out that Scott’s been pretty busy in the intervening period, having penned a further five albums, including his recently released ‘The Great Untold’, from which a number of tracks are included in tonight’s set.

In the last three years or so we have seen a steady increase in the number of reel to reel players at High End in Munich and it seems that more and more audiophiles are adopting the format despite the relatively small number of new releases on tape. Of course there are a handful of specialist companies releasing product on tape and judging by the number of people carrying tape around at the show, it is been lapped up. And so, without further a do here’s some of the reel to reel tape players we happened across at this year’s High End in Munich. No words, just pictures of some truly beautiful reel to reel players for your delectation. More »

Turntables were absolutely everywhere at this year’s Munich High-End and so here are some of the ones that stood out on our travels around the show…with a handful from Audio-Deluxe thrown in for good measure. We have no way of seeing everything at the shoa nd know we will have missed a good proportion but hope you enjoy all these lovely turntables.  More »

Nostalgia tours roll into town with rapid regularity.  Missed one Seventies or Eighties hit-maker?  There will be another along before you know it.  Nostalgia sells.  It’s less common though for someone who had their first number one in 1979 and their last top ten single in 1982 to come storming along with a set that draws heavily on their new album and yet delivers a credible, and relevant, performance. I’ve been a long-time fan of origin Live tonearms having used their Silver tonearm on a fully modded Technics 1210 and on my previous vinyl spinner from Analogue Works, the logical next step for our vinyl front end was to upgrade the arm and to buy one of OLs turntables. We have and here are our thoughts on the British company’s Resolution turntable with upgraded PSU and triple layer Acrylic platter, partnered with their Zephyr tonearm. The total price of the turntable as tested here is £5550.  More »

Bryan’s back in town and the Ferry fans are out in force; it seems unlikely that a bleached blonde in a blingy black blouse will anywhere to be seen outside of the Usher Hall tonight.  And that’s as it should be; after all, septuagenarian sex symbols are in short supply and who knows when this one will pass this way again.
