BRITISH HIFI COMPANY REVIVES CLASSIC AMPLIFIERS STARTING WITH THE MULLARD 3-3
Classic-Sounds has announced their first power amplifier, the Classic-Sounds Mullard 3-3 Amplifier.
Classic-Sounds are on a quest to bring alive the true classic amplifiers of the 50s and 60s. All of the Classic-Sounds amplifiers are designed and built by Primary Windings Ltd, and all the transformers are made to a very high specification by them in the UK.
CLASSIC-SOUNDS MULLARD 3-3 AMPLIFIER
The first amplifier is the Mullard 3-3, a true classic single ended EL84 3.5W design from the 60s. It is unusual in that it uses direct coupling between its input stage and the EL84 power valve. Classic-Sounds says this provides for DC stability and a very stable frequency response as there is no phase shift apart from the output transformer.
Next up will be the Mullard 5-10 10W push pull, in stereo.
VALVES
The output transformers are large, for powerful bass reponse and use a layered construction. Each layer is insulated using high quality paper insulation. Valve line up is 2 x EF86, 2 x EL84 and 1 x EZ81.
GLOSS BLACK CHASSIS
The stylish gloss black chassis is made from 2mm aluminium. The power supply has been designed using large capacitors, one on each channel and a common capacitor. All valve sockets are gold plated. The design allows for speaker impedances of 4,8 and 16 Ohms and a EU mains voltage from 220V-250V. As well as a US voltage range of 110V-120V.
CLASSIC-SOUNDS MULLARD 3-3 AMPLIFIER PRICE
The Mullard 3-3 is available ready-built and tested, or in kit form for you to build yourself.
Currently available at an introductory offer price of £685 – £720 for the ready built system and £690 for the full kit. This will increase on March 1st by +£130 for the ready built system and +£115 for the full kit.
HiFi PiG Says: A fantastic idea and it is brilliant to see the revival of some classic amplifiers for modern audiophiles.
