CLOSER ACOUSTICS BLOCKS: A MODULAR LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM
Closer Acoustics Blocks is a modular loudspeaker system designed to offer flexibility in sound tuning, accommodating different room acoustics, amplifier types, and listener preferences.
The Closer Acoustics Blocks system builds upon the company’s experience with wide-band driver loudspeakers and includes existing models, such as OGY and BOB (Bass Open Baffle) modules. The latest addition to the lineup is OKHO, the central component of the new modular system. The speakers can be assembled in a mix-and-match style according to the customers sound preferences.
OKHO: THE CENTREPIECE OF THE CLOSER ACOUSTICS BLOCKS SYSTEM
OKHO features a 12” wide-band driver, similar to the unit found in Closer Acoustics’ flagship Vigo speaker. Designed to work in conjunction with at least one pair of BOBs, OKHO can be integrated into a modular stack to optimise sound performance. To ensure the speaker is positioned at ear level, Closer Acoustics has introduced the Blank, a structurally identical but voided version of the BOB cabinet. This standardised sizing allows for a range of configurations to suit individual listening environments.

Listeners can assemble the system in various configurations, including:

Each setup influences bass presentation differently. Placing a BOB closer to the floor enhances bass reinforcement while positioning it higher yields a cleaner response. For those seeking an even more substantial low-frequency foundation, an additional pair of BOBs can be integrated, reinforcing the 40-200Hz range without adding excessive boominess.
BOB MK II: REFINED DESIGN AND ENHANCED CONNECTIONS
BOB modules have undergone a revision with the introduction of the MK II version. The new design eliminates the internal BOB terminal, instead integrating an improved inductance coil directly onto the driver’s backplate. Pure copper binding terminals now accommodate spades, banana plugs, or bare wire, ensuring a high-quality connection. Wiring is achieved with 9.5 AWG pure copper Cardas wire, and custom jumpers made from the same material facilitate connections between BOBs and OKHO or OGY.

OKHO VS. OGY: DIFFERENT SONIC SIGNATURES
Closer Acoustics has designed OKHO to be interchangeable with the existing OGY speaker within the modular system. While both models pair with BOB modules, their sonic characteristics differ significantly:
OKHO: 12” driver, 97.5 dB efficiency, 34Hz resonance. Offers a relaxed, full-bodied midrange and a spacious soundstage.
OGY: 4” driver, 91 dB efficiency, 50Hz resonance. Known for its speed, detail, and holographic imaging.
To balance efficiency differences, Closer Acoustics employs high-quality Pathaudio resistors in a constant impedance circuit. This attenuation can be bypassed via direct connection to the driver binding posts if desired.
CLOSER ACOUSTICS BLOCKS BUILD QUALITY AND ADDITIONAL FEATURES
The Blocks system is assembled on an anti-vibration platform equipped with ISO Acoustics GAIA II footers. Additionally, Closer Acoustics has responded to customer feedback by integrating acoustically transparent cloth on the back of the modules for dust protection. Brass pins prevent module slippage, ensuring a secure stack formation.
