EJ JORDAN HAS RELEASED A TWIN FULL-RANGE, BBC-INSPIRED LOUDSPEAKER
British manufacturer, EJ Jordan has launched the EJ Jordan Greenwich, its second loudspeaker featuring Ted Jordan’s full-range driver in a BBC-inspired cabinet.
Following the classic design of last year’s EJ Jordan Marlow compact loudspeaker, the new, larger Greenwich is made from high quality, 9 mm Baltic birch ply, heavily damped and tuned according to the BBC’s research in the 1970s.
EJ JORDAN GREENWICH LOUDSPEAKER
EJ Jordan tells us that the Greenwich differs from conventional BBC speakers in using Jordan’s proprietary drive units. Instead of tweeter and woofer, separated by a complex electrical circuit, the Greenwich features two identical Jordan Eikona drivers. The Eikona is an alloy-cone, full-range driver, requiring no crossover or additional units.
TWIN JORDAN EIKONA DRIVERS
So why two identical drivers instead of the usual arrangement of tweeter and woofer?
“The Eikona full-range unit is something special,” says Jordan MD Colin Shelbourn, “It covers the majority of the musical spectrum in a detailed, phase-coherent way that’s almost impossible to achieve using traditional units. Since producing the Marlow, we’ve been inundated with requests for a larger loudspeaker, suitable for bigger rooms. Adding a second Eikona, with a careful amount of response shaping, has greatly increased the dynamic range whilst keeping everything which made the Marlow special. The Greenwich retains the Marlow’s signature delicacy and speed of transient response, something that would be lost with a heavier, conventional woofer. It’s an unusual approach but works extremely well and keeps the benefits of a full-range driver. It’s a technique that Ted Jordan used in his own designs. His engineering philosophy drives everything we do and our challenge is to innovate and build on the company’s 40-year heritage.”

EJ Jordan has high hopes for the Marlow’s bigger sister, the Greenwich. The prototype was shown at this year’s UK North West Audio Show, where it attracted very favourable comments from visitors, in the Music First Audio room.
MADE IN THE LAKE DISTRICT
Ted and Denise Jordan first established EJ Jordan Designs in Marlow, Buckinghamshire in 1982. In 2017, following the death of Ted, the company moved to Windermere in the Lake District and is now run by co-directors Colin Shelbourn and Denise Jordan.
The Greenwich is handcrafted in the UK’s Lake District, using components sourced as close to home as possible. Each element of the Greenwich has been evaluated and refined, based on feedback from the Marlow. The 16-litre, Baltic birch ply cabinets are covered with high-quality, real wood veneers, and the speaker connections are Tom Evans’s exclusive copper binding posts.
TOM EVANS
EJ Jordan Ltd has a long connection with amplifier designer Tom Evans, who consulted on the design of the Greenwich.
