Electrocompaniet the Norwegian hifi manufacturer of CD-Players, Dacs, amplifiers and loudspeakers launched the EMP 2 multiplayer in October of last year. Whilst this isn’t up to the minute “news” Hifi Pig thought it worth including in this section of the site.
The EMP 2 is part of the company’s Classic line and is a fully fledged and versatile player with support for all modern audio and video formats and media including Blu-ray in 2D and 3D. CD, SACD, DVD and DVD Audio.
Modern video and audio processing in both two and multichannel is said to “give excellent picture quality and high end sonic quality. ”
The EMP 2 boasts lots of connections giving great flexibility both for use in a surround or stereo set up. The EMP 2 is said to be a “real multiplayer” that works perfectly as a player in multichannel set-up and as a two-channel CD/SACD player. The unit offers 7.1 phono outputs and stereo XLR balanced outputs.
Qdeo video processor from Marvell for optimal Blu-ray playback claims to give a natural picture without noise and artefacts. DVD movies are upscaled to HD format.
SACD playback is possible in both stereo and multichannel using DSD format. The DSD data-stream is sent directly from the disk to the DACs for direct transmission to analogue. Filters on the output removes high frequency noise to ensure that amplitude and phase characteristics of the signal are maintained.
A separate balanced stereo output offers high quality two-channel playback to your existing stereo set-up. Discrete class A output circuits and the “best DAC available” makes this player a significant improvement over the EMP 1. PCM format is up scaled to 192kHz/24bit before being sent to the DAC’s, DSD format is direct.
