LP SPEAKERS BESPOKE LOUDSPEAKERS CREATED IN FRANCE DURING THE PANDEMIC
The Covid-19 pandemic and the associated lockdowns have been a very difficult time for many businesses, but it is great to hear some good news stories.
The 2020 Covid-19 lockdown enabled Amsterdam born Lennart Pluim to fulfil a life-long ambition of designing and making loudspeakers and create LP Speakers.
KICKSTARTER
As a trained cabinetmaker and furniture designer, he makes unique pieces of “Speaker Art to enrich people’s lives”. In order to develop the business and expand the range, he is launching a Kickstarter campaign to find backers to support the development of four new models. The new models are the Coaxial Rocket, Dovetail, Oval Coaxial and Stone Levitation. Pricing for the new speakers will be finalised after prototyping but will be in the region of 7 – 15,000€, depending on the model. Part of the funds raised will be used to purchase machinery which will allow greater repeatability and freedom in design.
The Kickstarter campaign is offering different, limited edition versions of LP Speakers Pico Bello loudspeakers, ranging between around 1000€ to 2200€, including these pictured below, the LP Speakers Pico Bello Fantasma Rosso.
LP SPEAKERS
“My first creations have shown that it is possible to make beautiful speakers that sound great but now the time has come to raise the bar both visually and technically and I have designed four different 2-way active speakers that need to be prototyped and finetuned. Each model brings its own personality and I believe they will appeal to music lovers with a discerning eye for design,” said Lennart.
SEAS DRIVERS AND HYPEX AMPS
These new models will have top of the range Seas drivers, inbuilt Hypex amplifiers and Finnish Birch ply carcasses.
“Sawing my own veneers allows me to book-match each pair using figured timbers whilst also freeing up what finishing techniques to use. For environmental reasons, I only work with European hardwoods but fortunately, the choice is vast. By tailoring the design to the customer’s desires, they will add something uniquely personal to their room.” Lennart told us.
LENNART PLUIM
Lennart trained as a furniture designer thirty years ago at the John Makepeace School for Craftsmen in Wood in Dorset (UK). After a varied senior management career across Europe, he now lives in the South West of France and works from a workshop next to his house and family.
The Kickstarter campaign will launch soon, Lennart says: “The Kickstarter campaign is not only about finding the backers required to move the business forward but also to create awareness that it is still possible to have great sound, high-quality craftsmanship and good looks – things that seem to have become less common over the last 40 years.”
