MOFI SOURCEPOINT 888 SPEAKERS AVAILABLE IN THE UK  

The new MoFi SourcePoint 888 is the latest from speaker designer Andrew Jones, British audiophiles are now able to audition them.

The UK distributor Karma-AV has announced the UK availability of the MoFi SourcePoint 888 three-way loudspeaker.

MOFI SOURCEPOINT 888 LOUDSPEAKERS

Featuring three 8-inch drivers (hence 888), the new design deploys the unique concentric driver from the SourcePoint 8 design. The driver, which integrates a twin drive magnet structure, paper pulp cone, and concentrically mounted soft dome tweeter, is joined by two newly developed dedicated 8-inch woofers to create a 3-way, floor-standing speaker.

WOOFERS

Positioned beneath the concentric driver on the SP 888’s satin black painted baffle, the additional woofers operate below 130Hz, relieving the concentric driver from the task of producing deep bass while allowing it to be fully optimised for midrange and treble performance, thus providing greater acoustic transparency. A three-way crossover blends the drivers seamlessly using carefully chosen crossover frequencies and slopes to minimise the audibility of out-of-band anomalies and to produce smooth on-axis and off-axis responses.

The new woofers employ dual opposing neodymium magnets in a configuration that uses a short coil in a long magnetic gap. The magnetic field is entirely uniform throughout the gap, resulting in very linear and precisely controlled cone movement.

DRIVER CHAMBERS

In addition, each driver in the SourcePoint 888 operates within individual isolated chambers, the construction of which adds considerable stiffness to the cabinet to further reduce cabinet resonances. Two sets of high-quality binding posts provide for bi-wire and bi-amp connectivity.

According to Andrew Jones, the design objective for the SourcePoint 888 “is to enhance the technology and sound quality of the SourcePoint 8 and elevate it to an even higher performance level. “To accomplish this goal, a rear-ported floorstanding cabinet is designed to house three 8” drivers.”
