The Black Angels have shared a twisted new music video for “Currency”, the lead single off their latest album ‘Death Song’ (out now on Partisan). The clip follows a day in the life of a dollar bill, from the hands of an elementary schooler to a drug lord’s den to a politician’s desk. Watch here via Billboard.
“Currency” is a strong contender for the band’s heaviest cut yet, meditating on the role the government and monetary system plays in our lives. The scorching track earned raves everywhere from Bob Boilen at NPR to Jon Pareles at the NY Times, who called it “an old-fashioned apocalypse”, and the new record has scored some of the best press of their career – big looks from Rolling Stone, Vice Noisey, Mojo, Uncut, Guardian, Times, Record Collector, Drowned In Sound, Clash, the Quietus, Shindig!, Louder Than War, Loud & Quiet and more…
Talking of the video, lead singer Alex Maas comments; “The concept came from a day in the life of a dollar bill. Our video artist Bob Mustachio came up with the idea. It was meant to follow a “cursed bill” over the course of a day or so. Ari Guerrero and Dallas Cloud produced and co-directed with Bob.”
