NORTH WEST AUDIO SHOW 2022 SEMINAR – Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorders: Practical advice and tips on ownership and use.
IAIN BETSON – REEL RESILIENCE
As well as great audio, the North West Audio Show that takes place at the De Vere Cranage Estate, Holmes Chapel, Cheshire on the 18th and 19th of June 2022 will host a series of interesting and informative seminars hosted by relevant experts in their field.
The first of these seminars we are highlighting is Ian Betson of Reel Resilience talking about Reel-to-Reel tape recorders that will take place in the Mercer Suites at 1:30 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. This is Brian and Trevor’s room
Interest in Reel-to-Reel tape has increased in recent years, and as well as a whole raft of new companies launching and offering pre-recorded tapes for the discerning audiophile there has also been a handful of new machines being produced.
Reel-to-Reel is back: In the studio. In the home. In HiFi.
A seminar from which you will gain all the knowledge you need about tape formats and recorders.
You’ll learn which tape will play on which machine and which tape recorder best suits your listening application and budget.
The seminar will cover:
Suitable recorders for a HiFi setup
An overview for the home/private user of suitable machines to consider based on price, running costs, availability and living with it (size/looks). Japanese or European models. Single vs bi-directional play. What to expect to pay for a decent machine (new and used) and running costs
Tape: Tracks and recording formats
Iain willalso cover buying pre-recorded tapes (new and old) and recording your own. Tape widths. The usual recording track formats (2 track single side stereo, 4 track double-sided stereo) to expect. Recording speeds. Where to buy new tape. Expected costs to pay for it.
This seminar will give interested visitors to the North West Audio Show a thorough grounding in Reel-to Reel tape to give them the information they need when exploring this fascinating niche of our hobby.
