INTRODUCING THE ORTOFON SPU GTX CARTRIDGE
The Ortofon SPU GTX Cartridge is the latest addition to the SPU series.
Danish cartridge brand Ortofon have unveiled their latest addition to the iconic SPU range: the Ortofon SPU GTX, with two variants.
ORTOFON SPU GTX CARTRIDGE
With a history dating back to 1958, the SPU series is known as a hallmark of analogue sound reproduction, renowned for its robust build. The SPU GTX builds on this legacy with updates designed to appeal to contemporary vinyl enthusiasts.
KEY FEATURES OF THE ORTOFON SPU GTX
The Ortofon SPU GTX is crafted with a new unibody housing made from a glass-fibre reinforced co-polymer, a first for the SPU range. This innovative material ensures stability and low resonance for the cartridge’s sensitive generator system. Integrated into its design is a built-in step-up transformer, allowing it to deliver a high 4mV output. This means users can connect it to standard phono stages or amplifiers, much like a moving magnet cartridge, offering flexibility without sacrificing performance.
A CHOICE OF STYLUS TYPES
The SPU GTX is available in two variants to cater to different listening preferences. The SPU GTX S features a spherical diamond tip, while the SPU GTX E comes with an upgraded elliptical diamond tip. Both are designed to deliver the signature musicality that defines the SPU series.
TECHNICAL COLLABORATION WITH LUNDAHL
Ortofon developed a new step-up transformer in partnership with Lundahl Transformers, a respected name in audio transformer technology. This collaboration enhances the cartridge’s sound quality, blending classic SPU characteristics with modern advancements.
HANDCRAFTED IN DENMARK
Hand-assembled in Denmark by skilled technicians, the SPU GTX showcases Ortofon’s commitment to meticulous craftsmanship. Its construction includes a bottom cover of the same reinforced material as the housing, ensuring durability and enhanced performance.
ORTOFON SPU GTX CARTRIDGE AVAILABILITY AND PRICING
The Ortofon SPU GTX cartridges will be available in the UK starting December 2024 through Henley Audio’s network of dealers. Prices are set at £949 for the SPU GTX S and £999 for the SPU GTX E.
HiFi PiG Says: These are sure to be crowd pleasers from Ortofon, in the tradition of their iconic SPU series.
