Bryston has introduced native support for the Qobuz streaming music service as an available firmware update for Bryston’s BDP Music Players. Qobuz, the world’s first certified high-resolution (24-bit/up to 192 kHz) streaming service, enables users to stream uncompressed content from a library of over 40 million tracks. The market for Digital Audio Players is fiercely competitive with new brands entering the fray constantly. As such a new product has to either offer excellent for money or sound cut above the competition. At £290 the ATC HDA-DP20 comes in at a mid-priced product which could be a good choice if the sound quality, build and ease of use are on a par with more expensive units. Featuring technology usually reserved for high-end audio products, Pioneer say the XDP-300R best audio player they could build. Like the existing XDP-100R, this model is one of the first products in the world to support the new MQA format. The XDP-300R builds on the credentials of the XDP-100R by adding dual ESS DACs alongside a fully balanced pre-amp circuit. Taking further advantage of these added capabilities, a dedicated balanced headphone output has also been added to ensure the “finest performance possible with suitably equipped headphones”.
