Acoustic treatment manufacturer GIK Acoustics has teamed up with Tape Op Magazine to release six of their popular covers as exclusive 242 Acoustic Art Panels for the US market.
Adding more fuel to the whisperings that cassette tape is the next old school format to be revived, Recording The Masters, the French tape manufacturer, is just about to launch MYSTIK, which they say is “a modern-day analogue cassette player with a focus on quality audio playback”.

In the last three years or so we have seen a steady increase in the number of reel to reel players at High End in Munich and it seems that more and more audiophiles are adopting the format despite the relatively small number of new releases on tape. Of course there are a handful of specialist companies releasing product on tape and judging by the number of people carrying tape around at the show, it is been lapped up. After a four-year development period, Ballfinger has introduced the first newly developed analogue tape recorder for around 25 years, the Tonbandmaschine M 063 was revealed at the Norddeutschen Hifi-Tage, in Hamburg last weekend. They also unveiled their new Schallplattenspieler PS 2 Directl-drive Turntable with active radial arm and moving coil system.More »

Hifi is an odd bod. We get great ideas, and then go backwards in sound quality before going forwards again. I mean, look at the resurgence of the LP, or the backwards philosophy of MP3. Most will say the CD was a bit of a white elephant. Of course we all remember the cassette tape, and some will be pleased that one hasn’t come back, although a new “ReVox” reel2reel based on the Studer B-676 is on its way back soon as ¼ inch tape begins a mini revival.
