TROY AUDIO AT HIGH END MUNICH WITH ACAPULCO LOUDSPEAKERS

At Munich, you can hear the new Troy Audi Acapulco loudspeakers which feature a vintage design.

At the High End Munich Show 2022, Troy Audio will present its new creation, the Acapulco loudspeakers that represent many years of research and development, giving an ultrahigh efficiency design and vintage style.

1960 ALTEC SANTANA

Troy Audio’s Acapulco loudspeakers are the new interpretation of the famous 1960 classic Altec Santana speaker. Troy Audio says that they improved the design using a new concept to create a musical system for modern-day audiophiles.

“We redesigned the baffle and used high-quality wood and Premium veneer, that will re-create true to life sound in a two-way configuration, thanks to the Biflex 415-8C driver manufactured by our sister company Great Plains Audio and a compression driver tweeter. We designed the crossover as simple as possible so as not to interfere with the audio signal, using premium Mundorf components”, said Francisco Jileta, CEO of Troy Audio.

CARDAS CONNECTORS

The Acapulco loudspeakers use Cardas connectors for the binding post and brushed metal spikes carefully designed into a teardrop shape to minimize vibration. Acapulco includes a base that raises them off the floor and provides a 5-degree listening angle, something they say is very comfortable for the audiophile and music enthusiast because this generates a more homogeneous time response between woofer and tweeter.

BIFLEX DRIVER

The heart of the Acapulco is the aforementioned 415-8C driver. Biflex drivers are designed to provide high efficiency, wide range, and smooth response over a wide distribution area.

With the introduction of the patented Biflex principle, the problem of obtaining full frequency reproduction from a single cone loudspeaker is now considered by some to be solved. Whereas, in the past, it was necessary to provide a compromise between the smaller cone with minimum weight and diameter, best for HF reproduction, and the larger heavier cone for optimum bass response. Biflex loudspeakers use the principle of damped mid-cone, wherein the entire area of the speaker cone propagates the low frequencies and the smaller central cone for the high frequencies.

The feature a Biflex driver

Below 1000 cycles, the stiffness of the mid-cone conforms in such a way that it couples the inner and outer sections into a single moving element. Above 1000 cycles, the balanced mass of the outer portion of the cone uncouples at this point, permitting the inner section to operate independently.

TROY AUDIO ACAPULCO LOUDSPEAKERS

The 415C employs Alnico V magnets, the voice coil is of the edge-wound aluminium, situated in a deep magnetic gap to maintain proper cone control and linearity.

The 415-8C driver basket has been redesigned to provide increased strength and stiffness. This new loudspeaker uses a modified version of a Fostex super tweeter with an Alnico magnet. The coupling between the super tweeter and the Biflex horn has been well calculated in impedance and sensitivity. In addition, Troy Audio are allowing the full response of the Biflex driver – which naturally has a soft roll-off from 14 kHz, at which point the super tweeter starts to function, only as a subtle reinforcement at extremely high frequencies. The tweeter is surrounded by a plate that doubles and serves as a waveguide that expands high-frequency coverage, thus unveiling a wide soundstage.
