Focal, who are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, and their sister company Naim will once again be at the High End Munich Hifi Show (9th -12th May 2019).
Thorens have just released the surprise news that they are launching a Reel to Reel tape machine, in partnership with the German company Ballfinger, but they also have some new turntables for you at this year’s High End Show in Munich.
Danish loudspeaker brand Dynaudio and the organisers of High End Munich are giving unsigned artists the chance to get their big break, free of charge. There are twelve recording slots up for grabs at the High End Munich Show on the 9th to 12th of May at the MOC Munich.
Serbian High End brand, Supreme-Analog will be exhibiting in an international system at this year’s High End show.
Hifi Pig have been going to the High-End show in Munich now for six years. The first couple of years we attended was a bit of an adventure as we took the overnight train from Paris – even getting to Gare l’Est Paris from rural Brittany is a bit of a hike and if you don’t have a cabin on the Paris to Munich stretch you end up “sleeping” on hard benches. The first year we did this we arrived at Munich bleary-eyed and having had only fitful sleep, dashed to the hotel we had booked and then straight to the MOC to cover the show, really not relishing the trip back a few days later. However, needs must and we knew that to be seen as a serious player on the International Hifi scene Hifi Pig needed to be represented at the show, though we were surprised that first year at just how many people actually knew us and read the site on a daily basis. For many years now, visitors to the High End Munich show have been able to experience music demonstrations of exquisite quality on an extraordinary Hifi system in conference room K1B. The independent “German Record Critics’ Award Association” Award is given by its “Quartet of Critics”, which for the third year on May 10th, at the exhibition, will be discussing excellent and exciting music productions, and in doing so, presenting the 2019 special awards to Eva Mair-Holmes (Trikont) (pictured) and Klaus Voormann.
Steven Wilson, the solo artist who first found fame as the founder and creative force behind the progressive rock band, “Porcupine Tree”, is the 2019 Brand Ambassador for High End Munich.
French High End brand, Totaldac, are launching their first ever stereo power amplifier, The Amp-1, at Munich this year.

I love Hifi shows and have attended the major and minor shows around the world since the 1970’s, but one show has always eluded me, until this year that is. It was time to pluck up my courage and German language O’level skills to make my way to Munich for the show that everyone is talking about these days. Whilst some major shows around the world have either closed-down, and others can’t decide whether to move to Birmingham or somewhere else, this show stays firmly rooted to the southern German town. And, like a scene from 28 Weeks Later, hundreds and hundreds of determined audio-infected humans marched from all directions with great determination into the venue holding the annual event. It was hard to believe that so many people had such a passion for audio let alone would traverse so many countries to all join-together with one simple wish to see and hear the best in audio, for Hifi is truly still alive and well. Every year the High End Society has a ‘Newcomers’ stand where they give exhibition space to a few, very lucky, new companies and products. We always take a great interest in this area as it really shows the future of the industry. Every year we say the same thing, ‘surely the High End Show can’t get any bigger?’, but every year it does! It is now at the point when no human can actually cover every inch of the show…we have tried our very best but I think Super-human powers would be needed for that! However, being very organised and attacking it with military precision meant that we got to see most rooms and exhibits with the aim of bringing you the most comprehensive and interesting coverage of the show…we even managed to get over to the HifiDeluxe show too and bring you CanJam Munich coverage. I was very lucky to make it over to Munich this year in what is undoubtedly the best show in the calendar. More than ever there were more new manufacturers as well as the traditional names we have heard over the years. Fink Audio are one of the newer names in the street, though their work is probably more well-known than they would let you know. This is a company best known for acoustic evaluation, involved in the creation of loudspeakers for other brands, who hire them because of their expertise, experience and excellent in-house simulation and measurement facilities. Whilst loudspeaker brands might not admit to using their skills, Fink also create speakers under their own name, notably the MW 4 speaker a year ago. More »

For the first time Munich High End also played host to Can Jam Europe. The event was held just over the road from the MOC and attracted more than 2000 people, proof indeed that the market for headphones and portable audio is continuing to be a healthy one. IsoTek were launching several new products at the High End Show including the Gemini, Syncro Uni and the Evo3 Nova. Due to another appointment we couldn’t spend too much time at the launch but were very well looked after by Fi Hobden and her team, who even provided us with vegan canapés…much appreciated after a long day walking many miles around the show.
