THE SECOND-GENERATION MAGICO S-SUB 2023 FEATURES BRAND NEW 13” DRIVERS

Following the launch of the new 2023 Magico S3 loudspeaker announced at the end of last year, Magico has now announced the brand new Magico S-SUB 2023.

Magico S-SUB 2023

The new, second-generation, Magico S-SUB 2023 has been designed to complement the Magico S Series of loudspeakers. Read more about the new Magico S3 here.

MAGICO S-SUB 2023

The new, second-generation S-SUB was borne from concepts taken from the Magico TITAN-15 subwoofer. The research and development that led to the flagship TITAN-15 allowed the Magico engineering team to improve upon virtually every aspect of the original S-SUB.

NEW 13” DRIVER

The Magico S-SUB 2023 features a pair of front-firing 13” drivers. The new 13” driver uses a two-layer, 75mm voice coil with 0.6” of linear travel in each direction. Each driver has a power rating of 550W RMS, continuous, and even more under peak conditions. It utilises a super-stiff aluminium cone to give the right balance between stiffness and weight. An advanced motor system results in a super-stabilised magnetic field employing multiple copper shorting rings to stabilise inductance and minimise distortion.

To enable extreme linear movement, the driver’s spider has tensile wires woven in. All of this new tech results in a driver optimised for delivering “maximum SPL while minimizing music-related distortions in the low frequencies”, says Magico.

MASSIVE S SERIES ENCLOSURE

The S-SUB’s enclosure was designed and evaluated both with computer simulation and physical testing to meet Magico’s requirements for both rigidity and stability. The enclosure was conceived using finite element analysis (FEA) software so that all structural elements were optimised. Further prototype testing was conducted to ensure all design goals were met or exceeded. This extensive research and development resulted in a thick, 6061-T6-grade aluminium enclosure with innovative bracing techniques, together with advanced damping materials for what Magico says is an “utterly silent subwoofer enclosure”.

MAGICO S-SUB 2023 AMPLIFIER AND ACTIVE DSP-BASED CROSSOVER

The new S-SUB uses a powerful class-D amplifier capable of 3200W. The DSP software provides the end user with setup flexibility, including a new rear-panel display, enabling calibration of the S-SUB to the specific room it is used in and with the speaker system it is paired with. This software offers three stored equalisation presets, auto-on detection, auto-off shutdown, along with clipping and thermal protection. This adjustability is all implemented using a network-based interface.
