Jackson Whalan shares a powerful rendition of John Lennon’s “Gimme Some Truth.” We partnered with V13 to bring you a first look of the charged music video.

In a raving review V13 says, “Jackson Whalan has done his homework and carefully navigated his way through recording a gem of a cover of the famous Lennon number, “Gimme Some Truth.
Whalan draws inspiration from one of the most prolific songwriters of our time, John Lennon, and covers the provocative song “Gimme Some Truth”. Unlike “Imagine”, “Gimme Some Truth” juxtaposes the idyllic song and screams out for answers to the problematic world we live in.

Jackson Whalan is a lyricist and producer creating eclectic hip-hop with a modern flair to invoke positive societal change.

Jackson Tynan Whalan was born on May 26th, 1991 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts (The Berkshires). He started rapping and making beats at age eleven when he discovered that the power of hip-hop gave him unstoppable purpose. Rapping was the only way that he felt he could confront the injustices that exist in world.

Music quickly became Jackson’s main focus. Through his teenage years, he was deeply involved with a local youth organization called Railroad Street Youth Project. The non-profit organization helped to catalyze Jackson’s musical path and provided unique opportunities for his development as an artist. Through the R.S.Y.P. mentor program, he cultivated a musical partnership with award-winning songwriter Robby Baier, who he still works with to this day. In 2008, at age seventeen, Jackson performed at United Nations Headquarters in front of Jane Goodall, Elie Wiesel, Michael Douglas, and an audience of youth delegates from around the world. He performed there again in 2013. His performances at the U.N. were in support the International Day of Peace (acknowledged annually on September 21st).

Jackson has toured nationally throughout the U.S. and beyond. He has toured as direct support for Moon Hooch in addition to headlining performances around the country. He has opened for Talib Kweli, Slick Rick, Aceyalone, Michal Menert, Random Rab, Late Night Radio, and others, and has appeared on festival and concert lineups alongside Immortal Technique, Gramatik, Honeycomb, Big Gigantic, Break Science, Exmag, Griz, Jade Cicada, J Rocc, Killah Priest, Brother J, and other established acts.

In addition to consistently releasing music independently and performing, Jackson also produces music and engineers in recording studios for clients and collaborators. His original music has been licensed in commercials and film/television on multiple occasions (All Screwed Up, Reebok, Champs, Smart Car, Huawei, and others).

Jackson has an extensive catalog of original and collaborative albums, EPs and singles, and is also recognized for his comical side, as is displayed in his most-viewed music video for his song “S.N.A.G. (Sensitive New Age Guy)”.

He has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, from Hip-Hop, to Electronic, to Classical: Myka 9, Jo Jo Mayer & Nerve, Fatlip (The Pharcyde), Stic.man (Dead Prez), MC Supernatural, Lex Rush, Honeycomb, Elan Morrison, Mr. Lif, Jade Cicada, Space Jesus, Esseks, Robby Baier, Jules Jenssen, Dave Eggar, The Arcitype, McQueen Adams, The Lesson GK, and many more.

In 2012, Jackson travelled to India to study Integral Sustainability for three months at an eco-village called Auroville. His time there provided him with a global perspective and new ways of living mindfully. He also collected field recordings while there, adding to the growing sound bank he uses in his production.

A graduate of The New School in New York City, Jackson now resides in The Berkshires in western Massachusetts. After touring on-and-off since 2013, he is currently releasing new songs each month while working up to a full-length album titled Nice Em Up. In regard to performing, he is focusing on his live band to create an unforgettable experience for listeners near and far.
